Myopia Management
Myopia Management (which is sometimes also called Myopia Control) is an evidence based approach to control and management of myopia (short sight).

The myopia management clinic at Myopia Clinic (i-Care Optometry) was introduced as a result of the increasing body of evidence that exists supporting the use of specialist spectacle and contact lenses in short sighted (myopic) children*.
Specifically, the evidence shows that certain types of multifocal contact lenses and Orthokeratology (Ortho-K) lenses have been shown to reduce the rate of lengthening in the myopic eye of children in a number of studies.

In recent times we now have specialist spectacle lenses which have now been proven to reduce (or in some cases halt) the increase in Myopia in certain patients.
In some countries drugs such as Low-dose Atropine are also used to manage (and reduce) the onset of Myopia.

We also now use the latest spectacle lenses to achieve a similar result where contact lenses are not suitable or preferred.

The management of myopia will undoubtably become increasingly important as the prevalence of myopia increases across the world (by 2050 it is estimated that 50% of the World's population will be myopic) and I-Care Optometry are proud to be at the forefront of clinical practice using these specialist treatments.
We have invested heavily to ensure that we have the latest technology and highly trained clinicians so that we can achieve the best results possible.

For example our clinicians in East Grinstead have access to both a DNEye Scanner and a Medmont E300 topographer (which is the Gold Standard for contact lens fitting - especially lenses such as Ortho-K).

Additionally, given that certain sight threatening ocular pathologies such as retinal detachment, myopic macular degeneration and glaucoma are linked with high levels of myopia this work has even greater importance as prevention is superior to cure.

We have embraced these findings and are delighted to offer effective solutions to not only correct children's eyesight with and without spectacles, but also offer a protective effect in the progression of myopia.
